What communication skills do I need to teach students as part of RSE / PSHE?

Ages 14-16 : (Theme: Sexual health) : Negotiation & communication within romantic (intimate / sexual) relationships (Target age 15-16 but can be used with ages 14-15)

A significant part of PSHE / RSE (Relationships & Sex education) lessons focus on how pupils can stay safe. Effective PSHE lessons in school help pupils to develop self-esteem and resilience, and communication skills such as advocacy, negotiation and persuasion. These are particularly important when it comes to relationships, whether these are intimate or non-intimate. This pack has a focus on effective communication within romantic relationships and therefore covers several aspects of statutory relationships education in the 4 Uk nations.

This pack contains the following activities:

  • How have you communicated today?
  • Non-verbal communication
  • The art of compromise
  • Appropriate communication
  • Passive vs assertive communication
  • Song lyrics and communication
  • Assertive communication practise
