What do I need to teach about sexual relationships in mandatory PSHE?

Ages 14-16 : Why do people choose to have a sexual relationship?

Statutory guidance for Relationships Education in secondary schools states, "pupils should know how to recognise the characteristics and positive aspects of healthy one-to-one intimate relationships, which include mutual respect, consent, loyalty, trust, shared interests and outlook, sex and friendship." This activity pack, part of the Chameleon PDE library, meets these aims by asking students to explore the reasons why people enter into a sexual relationship. Care has been taken to ensure that all the teaching activities are inclusive of LGBTQ+ individuals.

This pack contains the following activities:

  • Why people have sex - Top 20
  • Why people don't have sex- Top 5
  • Dispelling myths
  • Considering others' choices
  • Making sex a safe choice
  • Need some advice?
  • Checklist App design challenge
