Are your children asking questions about contraception in RSE?

Ages 9-11 : Adult choices & contraception

NOTE: These activities are ONLY intended if you are a school delivering conception and childbirth as part of your RSE (Relationships & Sex Education) policy. The pack should be used if children have questions or comments such as, 'Do women always have a baby if they have sex?'; 'How do adults avoid having a baby?'; 'My mum takes a pill to stop having a baby'.

These questions can feel daunting and the aim of this lesson pack is to address them in an age-appropriate way. There is also an expectation that children will have been taught about conception prior to these activities.

There is no expectation that all schools should deliver this content. If children are not asking the questions, this is an area that can be addressed at secondary school. Be mindful of keeping parents informed of your RSE provision and their right of withdrawal. If you are a faith school and contraception contradicts your school values please refer to your Diocesan/Faith guidance for how to address children's questions factually but within the remit of your school context.
