Do you have to teach about organ and blood donation in PSHE?

Ages 12-13 : Science & health

Statutory RSHE guidance for England states that secondary aged students must learn about life-saving science including, vaccines, blood donation, stem cells, organ and tissue donation. In other UK nations the guidance is not so specific, but these topics could be included in lessons about social responsibility and/or health.

This pack tackles these issues in a factual and distanced way drawing on age-appropriate information from the NHS. The pack contains the following activities:

  • Science & health

  • Antibiotics: OK or not OK?

  • Organ and stem cell donation

  • Giving blood

  • What are vaccines and how do they work?

  • Making a difference

  • Design a blood donation campaign
